Changes...

Hello bloggeronies...how goes things? Well today was a day of change for Old Man Robb..why a change? Because it was time that's all...lets just say enough was enough and i decided it was time for a change. I guess i just enough of coming home early at night, spending night after night and pissing people off while they were trying to enjoy their private time...just not healthy to be somewhere anymore where one moment you are the hero and the next minute you are the goat and to blame for everything going to hell... getting off a sinking ship? Perhaps..but this does give me time now to reflect and re-charge the batteries so to speak...don't worry the plans for my next move are afoot as i type this and this gives me time to work on education and do some things that need well...doing...

Of all days perhaps to do this eh? Well i must admit that one year later i enjoy my freedom..i guess Old Man Robb is not a follower, not that he ever really was ya know? A loner? Perhaps some, but more or less i walk to the beat of my own drummer, no not Ringo, but i like to do what i want to do when i want to darnwell do it and not have it dictated by him or her or them or whoever.. all im saying is that i like deciding to choose my own path in this life and i will not have that path led.. it was a dumb thing i did back then, but yet i sit here a year later and life has gone on...

How's about those Habs eh? Well thumbs down to all the naysayers which means i might as well give a good ol thumbsdown to myself while i am at it...i hoped we would give Ovechkin and the Caps a good run for the money, but i never imagined that the Habs would be standing triumphant and the Caps would be headed to the golf course..i imagine that Buttman is wild that there is not going to be an Ovechkin Vs Crosby showdown..and i am shocked that everyone in Montreal didn't tear the city apart...remember 1993? I have the gut feeling as Halak goes, the Habs go...i hear people talk...about names of the Habs past...Dryden..Roy...now Halak..young goalies who led the Habs to upsets..Ghosts of the Forum? You decide...

So Friday night me and Blair and my brother's step son went to go see some MSW action in Windsor at the good ol War Memorial...some good action happening... including a coffin match where the coffin broke halfway through the match! They were selling wrestling masks at the souvinear stands..however they were like $30...they even had a BLUE BLAZER mask...i guess its ok ten years later, but darn.. anyways it was a fun night, sometimes i disagree with little things like charging kids $5 for a picture with their favorite wrestler, but i guess that is how the boys make money. It was a fun night out and i hope they come back because the War Memorial is one of my favorite places to watch wrestling...

So Sunday Old Man Robb headed to Hfx and checked out the Boston Bruins oldtimers taking on a local Halifax squad for charity. It was neat to see players from yesteryear such as Brad Park, Terry O'Reilly, Reggie Lemlin and Ray Bourque whom im convinced coould still play in the NHL...the only bummer besides all of the empty seats at the fabulous Forum was that the only people who could get autographs were people who paid $$$ for a VIP ticket....that and the security guard who looked like Tony Soprano who came out and promptly told everyone who was not VIP to basically get the F*** out...kinda sad to see little fellas..esp this one little guy whose Bruin jersey was way too large for him with his hockey cards walking with his head down and his dad's arm around him... just made me shake my head i guess...images in my head of meeting Gretzky back in 81 and him not stopping till every kid had an autograph... i think they should have done like the Axemen did earlier this year and what i saw the Harlem Globetrotters do and that was invite everyone down to the ice and sign away...just my two cents...

I must admit i liked the PA announcer's outfit..kinda reminded me of a cross between Don Cherry and Jessie "The Body" Ventura...

From there on in i travelled over to the Keiths Brewery and i FINALLY had my tour of the brewery...quite the tour, the ladies on the tour were dressed in 18th century garb and it was neat to travel back in time and see the building of Mr Keith's dynasty.. plus you get free samples of Keiths near the end of the tour which made everyone on the tour pretty happy...plus the end of the tour where you walk down Mr Keith's hallway where supposedly he used to roll barrells of his brew to old pals..that was kinda creepy i gots to admit...

Of course Old Man Robb had to take a photo opp with Mr Keith...

Of course NO trip can be topped off without an ending visit to...drumroll...

Darn good stuff indeedy...im glad it has not changed much ovver the years..used to so awesome to head to before a night at the Sackville Drive-in or coming from the big fleamarket that was also held at the drive-in..of course time changes the good stuff like that and that big ass corporate Superstore sits there..however the Chickenburger still delivers and there is still the jukebox inside...well a CD jukebox (Wouldn't one with 45's have been rad??!?!?)..lots of oldies inside it..Stones, Beatles...NO Beach Boys..however Jan & Dean had to do...

Well with my freed up weekend what to do? Tomorrow is already occupied and im looking forward to it...but there is the matter of a well..well known remake about to hit theatre's tomorrow..yes dudes and foxy ladies tomorrow Kelly Leak is playing Freddy Kruger in Platnum Dunes remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" how will it fare? Robert England is not Freddy? I hope the producers at least gave him a cameo...PD's remakes are sometimes hit or miss...and other news tells me that 1980s Mother's Day has been remade and is looking for a distributor...is Hollyweird that out of ideas? I mean come on...is it the raping of the flicks of my childhood/ teenage renting years? Its like there are no new ideas anymore... just makes me kind of shake my head...do yourselves a favor kids..rent the originals..rent the original Nightmare, Friday The 13th, Texas Chainsaw, Dawn of the Dead..compare..what is spookier? Scarier? Which one makes you look under your bed..the one done on a budget under 5 bucks where the filmaker is going to try harder to get bang for your buck or the latest CGI crapfest which really doesn't even look real to Old Man Robb..you decide...

I mean what is going to be remade next?

On second thought..i would probably watch a remake of "The Clones of Bruce Lee"..cause maybe those effects would give us three Bruce Lee's who actually resemble one another...

And yes...CGI SUCKS...

Of course Sunday is UCW Wrestling in Canning..sadly Jake Roberts is not allowed across the border...no clue why..its too bad as he was a major selling point for the tour..but nonetheless we still get The Honkytonk Man, Bushwhacker Luke, Highlander Robbie (Not me) Doink The Clown and Rocker Marty Jannetty..this should settle the old school wrestling fans and it will be interesting to see some of them back in the ring again..

The other dates on the tour include...
Friday April 30th: Springhill, NS. 7:30pm
Saturday, May 1st: Trenton, NS. 7:30pm
Sunday, May 2nd: Canning, NS. 7:30pm
Monday, May 3rd: Barrington Passage, NS. 7:30pm
Tuesday, May 4th: St. John, NB. 7:30pm

Now before i go there is something that is on Old Man Robb's nerves and i got to spill the beans so to speak...now Malcolm X's killer is being released on parole...and i mentioned a blog ago about Karla Holmolka already having been released...is it really fair that both these people were able to obtain college/ uninversity degrees while behind bars for murdering people? And who paid for those degrees? Us the taxpayers..that's who.. is it really fair that people like me have to pay back zillions of dollars to our government for my university years and if i don't pay have some assclown on the phone calling 3-4 times a day to try and bully me? But yet killers take a walk from prison life after taking a life and they get to have a fucking degree on top of it? At NO charge to them?...oh yes i know what people will say..that people earn a second chance..but really what is fair? Besides looking into who gets a pardon, things like this should be looked into as well....

Ok...im done for one night...have a good one...

Dee Dee King- Standing in the Spotlight

Well well well...where do i begin with this one? I always thought Dee Dee Ramone was one of the coolest of the Ramones, dude was an awesome song writer, always screamed 1-2-3-4 before almost every tune and had some of most insane lead vocals on a Ramones album- Wart Hog, Eat That Rat, Endless Vacation, I Lost My Mind...the story goes was that when poor Dee Dee was in rehab he was hanging with some dudes who turned him onto rap music...i don't remember seeing the album at all when it was released around 1989 but then in the summer of 1991 it happened...me and Craig were at the old Sam The Record Man in Halifax...remember? This place?

Anywho..there it was sitting in the bargain bin on cassette for $1.99...$1.99!?!?!?!?!?! Automatically i bought it along with Ramones- Leave Home and Pleasant Dreams (A personal favorite)

Both classics for sure...but dammit we couldn't wait to get Dee Dee's masterpiece in the ghettoblaster..

The reaction? Instant laughter, comedy..here was Dee Dee rapping..horribly..rhymes that made no sense..it was like he started making a rap album and got off track, fell off the wagon..something..just comedy.i don't even know if Dee Dee was being serious or not...poor Dee Dee..left the Ramones...and his rap career went nowhere.. Dee Dee King was discarded to the annals of history, some have called it the worst album that they ever frickin heard, i kind of think it is an undiscovered masterpiece....just remember to cover your ears...

It could be worse dudes n foxy ladies...

It could be this...

But that is another horror story for another time...

RIP DEE DEE KING..

Working For The Weekend....Again...

Hello dudes n foxy ladies how are things? Well Old Man Robb is done Chapter 8 of his education course and well folks...only Chapter's 9 and 10 to go! Then it will be onto a course called EDUC 4683: Linguistics for Teachers which explores the fundamentals of linguistics: phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, pedagogical grammar, sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis and will discuss how this linguistic knowledge is relevant to the teaching of English as a second language. The objectives of the second course will enable me as a future ESL teacher to define the importance of these areas linguistics in the classroom, especially the ESL/EFL classroom  and to make useful the knowledge of linguistics to anticipate and assist students with language issues.

Heavy stuff eh? Chapter nine is on Intercultural communication which looks at how it relates to classroom interaction and student behavior, and at the bigger picture of the status of English and the kinds of models we should be using in our classrooms. It does look to be a heavy chapter because by the end of it i should be able to be aware of the ways in which intercultural communication affects classroom interaction, be able to participate in the current debate on English as an International Language, be able to critically evaluate the intercultural scope of textbooks,  and have considered the question of what it means to be a native or non-native speaker.

Its sad how the last time i blogged i babbled on about Graham James, resident wormslime being able to recieve a pardon...drumroll now this week following suit is Karla Homolka...now here is something that i copied and pasted for your reading enjoyment...A pardon suggests forgiveness and that the slate is wiped clean. It suggests that the justice system is apologizing to the criminal for having treated her so harshly, and that evil, and the memories it leaves behind, can be erased with the stroke of a pen.. can't anybody do something? Prime Minster Harper? Someone? The deal she got for ratting out equal scumbag Paul Bernado was an insult to those poor victims families...her plea bargain, getting a university degree in jail from Queens which was funded by our  tax dollars, getting a new identity etc etc is a slap in the face to Canadians and to the families of the victims... karma will catch up to her someday...
Oh my poor Habs.. down 3-1 in the series to the powerful Caps led by Alexander Ovechkin..well i think after Friday night Les Habitants will be breaking out the golf clubs and joining the Maple Laughs on the golf course..hard to believe..but yet true..the Habs are too small, defence is too slow, they do not have a break out superstar like a Crosby or an Ovechkin and they haven't had one since Guy Laflleur, the kind of player that you could tap on the shoulder and say get me a goal.... and i think that it is time for Carey Price to move on..it's been what? Three years or so now? Time to let someone take him off the Habs hands this summer and collect some draft choices in exchange...poor kid is referred to as "Red Light Price" and its only going to get worse playing in a hockey hotbed like Montreal.

Of course i cannot wait until Friday when me and Blair are heading up to good ol Windsor to the War Mermorial to go watch Mainstream Wrestling.. always a fun night in Windsor where the fans can get alot closer to the action than going to see a WWE houseshow, kids can get autographs and stuff too, meet the wrestlers.. always a good time...

Of course earlier this week me and my Momma went to Pearl's in Paradise which is a legendary roadside stop just located in where else? Paradise just outside Bridgetown...me and Blair where chatting about the crowd control at Pearl's and how sometimes the wait times can get hectic and how suprised we were that there has not yet been a car accident there yet and just wondering since they had all that space there why they just do not build a year round restaurant? Perhaps that would be stomping on tradition... but they do have the space for it...just food for thought..

I did do some spying the other day and well the AUS Football schedule is not up yet (Always the last ones to publish their schedule...why?) however the Axemen are going to be playing Bishop's on Saturday, September 18th which is a good four, almost five months from now.. i know i know..would make a good idea for a road trip though eh? Goggle mapped it and it is something like a 12 hr trip from here to Bishops...would be fun though..

Well i saw on this ol internet thingy the other day that the new Friday The 13th sequel has been put on hold...how hard is it to make a Friday The 13th? Jason in woods, stalks teens smoking dope and having pre-marital sex and BOOM ya gotta Friday flick...and this thing made 91 million off a budget of 19 mil..profits to be made..perhaps the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street next Friday will get another Friday goin..cause ya all know that Jason never dies...

Speaking of movies and stuff the Valley Drive-in opens next weekend as well..if the new Nightmare was playing first weekend i would go, but you know that they have to pander up to the families so some indoor bullstuff is playing instead..ahh the drive-ins..memories of Dodge-Road Drive-in and or even the drive-in located in Sackville...good days of cheap carloads and people having cook outs on the BBQ at the drive in which you are not allowed to do in Coldbrook by the way, if your making your own burgers, your not buying their's... too bad eh? Next thing you know you won't be able to bring lawnchairs or some BS...

Ahhh to remember the glory days of the drive-in

Oh i forgot this is Saturday at the Kentville Arena...

August 8th- Amherst Arena, Amherst NS

I wish i could go..ya never know what kinda stuff you will find at the flea market..
I finally got my mitts on Slash's solo album on Friday...hmmm..a little mixed feelings, Lemmy and Iggy Pop were the best things there.. the Alice Cooper track was a bonus track and not on the CD i got (Ugh...) The David Grohl/ Duff track was an instrumental...a bit of a tick off because i wanted to hear the two of them belt out a tune..Fergie should stay with her crappy band..Halifax Rocks? You mean Halifax Raps! And no im not spending money just to see Weezer and then leave...and the point i wanna make is Ozzy...i thought the choice of making a power ballad with Oz was a bad one...Ozzy had done ALOT of slow songs the last few albums and i was hoping the combo of Ozzy/ Slash would rock out a bit.. the lyrics were an obvious stab at someone (A.X.L) i dunno Oz annoys me sometimes...spend lots of $$$ to see him play some 70 minutes in Hfx a few yrs ago... was let down (Don't get Craig started on that one...) im just wondering if sometimes it is time for the Oz man to hang it up...
Remember that guy?

Oh before i leave i do have to say one thing...

Whoever this is...MARRY ME NOW!!!!! :D

That is all for now folks!

The Stuff...

Hello there people, dudes n foxy ladies..what is a happening in the wonderful world of Robert Reid Hawley esquire? Well not too too much today, a day off and stuff..finishing up some Education 4673 today while its nice out.. had to re-submit my lesson plan for module 7....my last one was way too advanced for the learners and well i just have to make it more simple that's all..keep it simple Mr Hawley!!! When i was teaching overseas in South Korea, my young learners, especially a group i had that were around ten to eleven years of age had very good writing skills, however their conversational skills were lacking, what they did not get enough of in their daily lives was conversational english, especially at home. During our forty minutes of class time i did alot of pair work with the children, either in groups of two or more and i gave them dialogue from their books and had them act out the dialogue in front of the class. We did alot of listen and repeat of certain words and i had each student come up to the whiteboard to spell the new words and say the word to the class. What i had hoped to accomplish was to give the students as many new words as possible and for them to incorporate it into everyday speaking.

My new chapter is on "Assessment and Evaluation" and so far so good.. What i like about it is that the new chapter is touching on old school beliefs that still stand today at almost all levels of education... Teachers find it difficult to do away with the following; teachers give exercises and essays for students to imitate. If that is the entire teacher does, then they are hampering creativity on the part of the students. The teacher lists topics on the board and asks the students to choose one and write about it without any preliminary activity before the exercise. Teachers write marginal comments and confuse students. Teachers give comments like improve, rephrase, too vague, too broad or specify....or in other cases they write things that alientate their students alltogether such as...

- “This is no good.”

- “Didn’t you learn anything about writing?”

- “This is a mess.”

This in turn frustrates students instead of helping them....i know it sure as heck used to piss me off..... Teachers use red pencilling and bleed student’s papers to death both figuratively and literally. The classroom malpractices, confuses and disorients the students. With traditional evaluation, the teacher is the only reader for whom the students write. Assessment and evaluation are not the sole responsibility of the teacher. Teachers need to make students realize that their papers are their own property, thus answering the question of ownership. The paper that is marked and scribbled over by the teacher is no longer the student’s property; it becomes that of the teacher....such a no no don't ya think?

How's about my Habs? Beating Ovechkin and the Caps in that first game! Ovechkin without a shot on net! hahahahah! Of course im not planning a Stanley Cup parade yet.... but damn this is one hell of a good start..all three Canadian teams won last night..wouldn't that be Buttman's nightmare? All three Canadian teams going down to the wire? The Habs, Canucks and or Sens? He has got to give up this silly dream of making the NHL the big thing in America and let some of those teams swimming in red ink come run for the boarder so to speak..im sure Quebec City and Winnipeg wouldn't mind having franchises back...

Last weekend was pretty fun took a trip to Black Rock..actually there are two Black Rock's in Nova Scotia and both have famous lighthouses with the other very close to Peggy's Cove... well the smaller one is close to Kentville way and i was up that was Saturday

Oh yeah...saw another one of these too...

I mean...WTF????

Then my travels took me to Hantsport to go see Dressed2Kill a tribute to KISS..a good show, i've seen them a few times now.. it was a small crowd at first, but more trickled in as the night went on..was funny watching some dude in a Gilligan hat do a drunken dance the whole night...(I believe he was cut off...) and a highlight was seeing Peter Criss..well the drummer who looks alot like Peter Criss singing "Beth" as a solo..overall a good time..

While i was in Hanstport i noticed a cool looking antique store...Red Fox Antiques i believe it was called...definitly a must for next time i am down that way.. well the pictures tell the story, or at least some of it, but any place that has Darth Vader, Pee Wee Herman, The Iron Sheik, Pachinko Machines, Slots etc etc in the window is definitly worth a Robb Hawley visit for future consideration...

Would be cool if this guy worked there...

So i did make a trip over to the Mall...yes when im not working i actually made a trip there to pick up Slash's solo album..but they were all sold out..looks like a solid affair with Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Lemmy, David Grohl, Iggy Pop as well as the rest of the old GnR gand except for Axl making an appearance..so as a substitute i picked up for $5.99 the Jake The Snake DVD from a few yrs ago called, "Pick Your Poison" which was an in-depth look at Jake's career with Jake sitting down and chatting about how bad his family life was as a kid, his addictions to drugs and booze..its amazing with all the wrestlers that have passed away and yet Jake is still with us..very amazing..i liked hearing and seeing again his old feuds with Ricky Steamboat, Rick Rude, Steve Austin (The whole 3:16 thing) and Jerry Lawler, which pissed Jake off because it got personal over booze comments by the King.. it should be interesting to see Jake on May 2nd here in Canning at the Gloosecap Arena..

Finally before i go i have to touch on the whole Graham James thing...i was totally appalled at hearing that this slimeball was granted a pardon back in 2007...how did this slip under the radar? This slim sexually assaulted two teens, including Sheldon Kennedy and recently Theo Fleury has come forward and revealed that James molested him in junior as well and there are probably scores of speculated others who just haven't found the courage to come forward yet.. another real shining example of Canada's parole board..its really sickening folks to think that this thing is out walking the streets... hate for this guy is so bad that The Calgary Flames organization has digitally altered a picture of James taking him out of a team photo with the  Calgary Hitmen that hangs in the Saddledome... im stunned..im really stunned that they would just let this thing be free on the streets...what is our country coming to? I think Don Cherry said it best when he stated, "'I'd have drawn and quartered the son of a bitch!"

Anyways folks..that's all for now..have a good one..
