April Fools....

Hello people and foxy ladies...well the long weekend is almost upon us and Old Man Robb has a three day weekend coming up with Friday, Saturday and Sunday off! Oh what will i do? House to myself, car to myself..me me me...hmmmmmmmmm...

Yes a friend had to message me and remind me that SMU beat the Alberta Golden Bears to win their first ever University Cup in their history...yes folks it took 80 years....believe it or not, SMU went to four consecutive national championship games from 1970 to 1973, but lost all four times to the Toronto Varsity Blues...Alberta has won 13 of these things and i have been waiting since 1995-96 for the Axemen to win another one...i thought this was going to be the year, chasing UNB for second place all season, alas it was not to be...ok enough dwelling on that because in another five months im sure training camp will be started and it will be time to start old rivalries again.....next year's CIS Finals will be hosted by UNB in Freddy Town...My only wish is that maybe the Axemen would have been able to add a player mid-season like SMU was able to do..especially an ex-NHL player...oh well too late for sour grapes now, but it leaves one to wonder...

Did anyone get to see "Keep Your Head Up Kid! The Don Cherry Story?" I got to see the first part on Sunday, however i missed part 2 on Monday due to work commitments...My Dad used to always love saying that word.."Robbie it is called wa-wa-wa-wa-Work!" it was neat to see that athletes were not always sitting there all pampered, every summer Cherry in the offseason was working in construction and after his minor league hockey career was over he was working as a used car salesman.. Cherry loves to ham it up on Saturday nights on HNIC, but i believe we were getting a good look at the real Cherry during this flick...i loved the parts with Springfield and Eddie Shore...Eddie Shore was always referred to as "The Darth Vader of Hockey" (Even though i think i met the REAL Darth Vader at Mount A) and he was pretty cold towards his players, tying his goalies to the nets so they would not fall to the ice, telling the player's wives they are giving them too much sex...showing Grapes his method for fixing a broken toe....i can see why Springfield was called the "Siberia of Hockey" and how players had it in their contracts in the 50s that they could not be traded to Springfield under any conditions...

PS- This is Old Man Robb & a Don Cherry impersonator in the summer of 2007 on "Gordie Howe Day" in Kentville.

My course is going well...i am about to start Chapter Seven which is a about listening and how to get your students to listen. I finished Chapter Six on pronunciation on Monday and wrote my final paper which was about how to have your students practice prounciation in the classroom. From my experience of teaching foreign students i have several observations on pronunciation in the classroom... There seems to be an emphasis on using pair work in these two chapters. This in my experience has worked better with advanced students because they have more experience with learning the language and i found that they can learn new things from chatting to one another, what one student missed in the language, the other may have picked up in the classroom and can share that knowledge. Students can listen and repeat after the teacher. This repetition is good for the students as it helps with their long term word retention. The pair work is good; however i think that that is best left to when the students have a little more experience with the language. Group work with the new language and stresses are best as a classroom activity, especially with younger levels.

Something i must share..even though i do not want to come off as an assclown about a local business..however on Friday with no wheels and it being payday i decided to treat myself and went out to eat...well i ordered a steak sandwhich and fries..this is not hard to mess up...however my steak sandwhich tasted like rubber and my fries were undercooked...i was disappointed especially since i was told that the new ownership can really cook, however i played the part of the chickenshit and didn't complain..just say there watching sports highlights and having a few Keiths.. now i remember as a kid going with my family with my dad's pal from Ontario and his wife and kids and we went to the old Ponderosa in Dartmouth..well they messed up his steak three times and he walked out...i wish i had those kind of balls..except well i gotta live in this town..its too bad as their Sunday brunch is quite good..only things i noticed is that the menu seems more sparse and ummmm...Thursday night is wing night...at 50 cents a wing...ummmm..that aien't like the old days of 10- 25 cent wing nights?!?!?! Wee bit of a rip i thinks and another thing..no way would i present a steak sub like that to someone from say Philedelphia...we would have a riot on our hands?!?!?!?!!?

Oh by the way...this is Robbblog post 399...my next blog is a VERY SPECIAL ROBBBLOG...POST 400!!!!! Stay tuned...

Watched Wrestlemania the other night...mixed feelings on that one..when is Vinnie Mac going to get smart and turn Cena into a heel (aka bad guy)?!?!?! The fans are dying to boo him... i don't give WCW much credit, but at least they took a chance turning Hulk Hogan heel in 1996 and it resulted in solid ratings for the company for the next two and a half years..the match-up between the Undertaker and Shawn Micheals was good as well with Micheals losing and having to retire...but we all know how long "retirements" last in the world of professional wrestling..(see Hogan...Ric Flair...) i have to say my saddest moment was watching Vince and Bret Hart...i know Bret couldn't do much in the ring after his stroke/ concussion, but it was just sad to watch Bret stumble around in there...it took 11 minutes for Bret to put the sharpshooter on Vince and have Vince tap...but it really should have been done in 3 minutes..just sad to see one of my favorite all-time wrestlers like that and im glad this whole Bret-Vince feud has been put out to pasture...

What a fuss people in Lunenburg are making about a fast food restaurant coming to town eh? Wilson's Gas Station wants to put in a drive-thru window...Well it takes away from the natural beauty of a tourist hotspot which Lunenburg is..preservation of the heritage...i heard years ago that McDonalds wanted into Wolfville and the town council kept it out...as a matter of fact this source as they say babbled that they bought that spot right by Billy Bobs and the pita place...it was a gas station years ago, then a restuarant in the early 90s and Joe Clark of all people used the building for his campaign in 2000... the building is still vacant as of today... but places like Lunenburg and Wolfville lose their identity when the franchises move in..when Raunchy Ron moves in...the rest follow..BK, KFC, DQ all of the rest...actually Wolfville had a KFC but it left around 1998...i mean how in the world does a  KFC close up in a college town?!?!?!?!?! I do like the idea i saw suggested that Wilsons should put in a bikini car wash instead...  :D

Anyways folks...that is all for now..have a good one...Merry Easter!
